Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced MEP Designer / BIM Modeler to support a U.S.-based architectural and design firm.

The primary focus of this position will be Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) design, drafting, and 3D modeling for residential construction projects. The ideal candidate should not only be able to produce drawings but should also understand how MEP systems are actually coordinated and assembled in the field.

Most projects range from custom single-family homes to residential developments of up to approximately six units.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) drawings for residential projects.
• Develop both 2D drawings and 3D MEP models.
• Coordinate mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems within architectural and structural designs.
• Identify potential conflicts before construction to minimize troubleshooting in the field.
• Develop drawings that provide contractors with clear direction regarding installation and sequencing.
• Review architectural and structural plans when developing MEP layouts.
• Help establish an efficient order of operations for field installation.
• Identify clashes, design conflicts, and constructability issues before work reaches the field.
• Work closely with the client’s designers, project managers, and other team members.
• Make revisions and improvements based on project feedback.
• Assist with improving and standardizing the company’s MEP documentation and coordination processes.
• Potentially support architectural and structural modeling as the role develops.

Required Experience

• Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
• Experience producing MEP drawings for U.S. residential construction projects.
• Ability to understand how MEP systems are installed and coordinated in actual construction.
• Strong 3D modeling capabilities.
• Experience coordinating MEP systems with architectural and structural plans.
• Ability to identify potential field conflicts and propose practical solutions.
• Good English communication skills and ability to collaborate remotely with a U.S.-based team.

Software Requirements

Preferred:

• Archicad

Also Accepted:

• Revit
• AutoCAD
• Other relevant BIM/MEP modeling software

Archicad experience is preferred but not mandatory. Strong candidates with excellent Revit and AutoCAD experience should also be considered.

Ideal Candidate

The client is looking for someone who goes beyond basic drafting. The ideal candidate should understand how MEP systems come together in the field and be able to translate that understanding into detailed drawings and 3D models.

The goal is to identify and resolve issues during the design/modeling stage rather than having contractors troubleshoot them during construction
