Construction Cost Estimator – Dirt Work (Earthwork Specialist)

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Construction Cost Estimator with a specialization in dirt work (earthwork) estimation to support our growing portfolio of site development and civil construction projects across the United States. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in estimating excavation, grading, trenching, and related earthwork components for commercial and residential construction sites.
This role requires a deep understanding of U.S. construction standards, regional cost factors, and the ability to deliver accurate and timely estimates that support competitive bidding and project success.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for earthwork and site preparation, including excavation, grading, trenching, and compaction

  • Analyze blueprints, site plans, and specifications to determine scope of work and required quantities

  • Conduct take-offs using construction estimating software and tools (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar)

  • Calculate labor, material, and equipment costs specific to dirt work and site development

  • Develop unit costs and pricing strategies based on historical data, supplier quotes, and regional labor rates

  • Collaborate with project managers, civil engineers, and procurement teams during bid preparation and value engineering

  • Review subcontractor bids and ensure accuracy in scope alignment

  • Track and document changes, cost updates, and proposal versions

  • Provide cost summaries, risk assessments, and value analysis to support decision-making

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, equipment capabilities, and material pricing related to earthwork

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.Minimum 3–5 years of experience in construction cost estimating, with a strong focus on earthwork/dirt work projects

  • In-depth understanding of U.S. construction codes, site development processes, and regional estimating practices

  • Proficient in estimation software (e.g., PlanSwift, Bluebeam Revu, HeavyBid, or similar tools)

  • Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, grading plans, and civil site plans

  • Solid math, analytical, and organizational skills

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Experience with DOT, public works, or land development projects is a plus
