Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Metal Stairs / Structural Steel Estimator to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in structural steel and miscellaneous metals (especially stairs, rails, platforms, and related components) and will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive estimates for construction projects.

This role requires strong attention to detail, proficiency in reading blueprints and technical drawings, and the ability to work collaboratively with project managers, engineers, and clients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Review architectural and structural drawings/specifications to identify scope of work related to structural steel and miscellaneous metals, including stairs, handrails, guardrails, ladders, and platforms.
• Perform accurate quantity takeoffs using software tools and manual methods.
• Solicit and evaluate quotes from material vendors, subcontractors, and fabricators.
• Prepare detailed cost estimates including materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
• Develop and maintain historical cost data and unit pricing for future estimates.
• Collaborate with project managers and engineers to ensure alignment of estimates with project goals.
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and post-bid reviews as required.
• Assist in value engineering, change order pricing, and project budgeting throughout project lifecycle.
• Stay current with industry trends, pricing, and material availability.
• Prepare bid proposals and ensure timely bid submissions.
• Maintain organized records of all estimates, bid documentation, and correspondence.

Required Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience in estimating within the structural steel and/or miscellaneous metals industry.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting construction drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
• Strong knowledge of building codes, construction methods, and materials related to steel construction and metal stairs.
• Experience with estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, FabTrol, Tekla EPM, AutoCAD, or similar).
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• High level of organization and attention to detail.
• Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple bids simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Degree or diploma in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field.
2. Field experience in structural/miscellaneous steel installation or fabrication is a plus.
3. Knowledge of 3D modeling or detailing software (e.g., Tekla Structures, SDS/2) is a plus.
4. Familiarity with industry standards (AISC, AWS, OSHA).
